Getting ready for puppies!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I mentioned Bee is in pup. Due in a couple of weeks, she’s been getting bigger and more uncomfortable every day! We are new to the breeding world but have been doing our research and this week, my husband Francis, made Bee a whelping box for her to give birth to her pups in.

It’s a simple wooden framed box, with a runner around the inside so that there is no risk of Bee crushing any newborn puppies up against the sides by accident. There is an opening for Bee to get in and out of easily and we have made more slats to go in the doorway to keep the pups in as they get bigger! We’ve made it very comfy with a whelping mat and cushion and I think you can see that Bee is quite at home in it already!

We are expecting a minimum of six in the litter, with hopefully a mix of black and red fox pups. I think we are nearly ready for them to arrive! It’s a daunting prospect, albeit exciting! I’m even apprehensive about keeping one of the pups – I love Bee with all my heart and very soon, life for her will change drastically and she will never be on her own again!  Will she be happy about that?! Is having two dogs just as easy as having one?! Only time will tell – I’ll let you know when I know!
